Certain flash drives like those that support Windows To Go can be used as an image source because they actually present as fixed disk class devices, but those are rare.Īh, that was it. ^ According to an answer from Nick somewhere on this forum a while ago, removable storage class devices can’t be used as an image source because they use a sector size and geometry that isn’t compatible with Reflect’s image file format, and also because I believe Windows doesn’t support creating VSS snapshots of such devices. Something about not being fixed disks, maybe?ĮDIT: Oh, a reply came in while I was typing. Well, I didn't actually execute the backup, just selected a partition and checked to see if I could select the flash drive as the target destination.Īre you using Folder as the target and can't select the flash drive from the list of available drives?Īre you sure you mean target and not source? Reflect won't accept flash drives for imaging and I forget exactly why. What behavior are you seeing when you either browse to your flash drive to select it as a destination or attempt to run that job? You can't use flash drives as a backup SOURCE (or a clone destination), but you can absolutely use them as a destination for image and F&F backups. Why doesn't Macrium Reflect support USB flash drive as target backup destination?
